SERIOUS GAS EXPLOSION.
WALL OF A DWELLING BLOWN OUT. MARVELLOUS ESCAPE OF INMAIES. By Telegraph—Press Association. NAPIER, March 27. A serious explosion of gas occurred last evening, at the residence of Mr W. T. Bendall. Shortly after the gas in the diningroom had been lit, and just as Mr Bendall and his wife were entering the room, a terrific explosion occurred, blowing one wall right out. The door was also blown off its hinges, and the ceiling was raised nearly a foot. Mr W. T. Bendall and his wife were blown out of the room with considerable force, but escaped with minor injuries. Showing great presence of mind, Mr Bendall proceeded to deal with the fire, and had it in hand when the Fire Brigade arrived. The escape of the Bendalls U nothing short of marvellous.
