WAIRARAPA SOUTH COUNTY COUNCIL.
(From Our Own Correspdndent.) The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa South County Council was held on Saturday, in the County Offices at Carterton. There were present, —Crs T. V. Moore, R. Barrer, H. S. Mason,. J. Strang, and R. G. Welch. > The debit balance was reported at £lO5 15s 6d, and accounts amounting to £263 12s 5d were passed for payment. It was resolved to support the Weber County Council's resolution that an endeavour be made to get power through Act of Parliament for ocal bodies to take timber suitable for burning papa for road metalling from settlers at a fair compensation, and that representations be made to the sitting member of the district, asking him to support the proposal when it came before Parliament. It was decided to put a culvert on Admiral Road in a good state of repair, and the engineer was instructed to prepare an estimate for putting two culverts in on the new portion of Tupurupuru Ruad, on which work Mr W. C. Buchanan had promised to assist. Atteiition was drawn to the groynes in the river above the Matarawa bridge, erected by the settlers. The water was striking against them, and it was the wish of the settlers to lower the sheathing on the bridge piles, which would break the water somewhat. The matter was left to Cr Welch and, the Engineer, with power to act. The usual water rate, and also the rate of 1-13 th of a penny in the £, was struck. The tender uf W. Hansen at £l2 10s was accepted for stumping 40 chains on Bishop's road, and that of F. W. Burling at 2s 3d per yard for 500 yards of metalling on Gladstone Road.
