PAHIATUA NEWS.

{From Our Resident Reporter). Friday. Boisterous weathre has been experienced here to-day, quite different from two previous days when warm rain fell incessantly. The Mangatainoka and Mangahao river ha«e been higher than has been known for several years, and I 3m informed that where the Mangahao river is confined to steep banks each side, that yesterday the flood water was fully thirty feet above its normal level. At Marima the approach to the small bridge between the river and the creamery has been washed a Way and this will cause considerable inconvenience until rectified. The flats at'Konini where dairying is carried on to a large extent will suffer for a few days from the silt deposited, and this will no doubt have a tendency to' diminish the niilK supply at the butter factory. Any damage done seems to be confined to the vicinity of the two rivers named, and it is stated that the Makuri river is not even flooded, and no slips have occurred in the Gorge. Mr T. Zillwood, of Carterton, is at fyresent on a visit to his sons, Messrs F. and L. Zillwood, this town. The next hunt of the Woodlands Hunt Club will be held at Hamua on Wednesday next. The social evening of the local Lodge of Druids, to which the Foresters have accepted an invitation to attend, is being looked forward with interest. Functions of this kind, when carried out in the proper manner are highly commendable, as people are brought together socially, and it is to be hoped that the™ card tournament between the various Friendly Societies in this town, which was proposad recently, will eventuate. St. Peter's Church was tastefully decorated last evening, the occasion being the annual harvest thanksgiving services. The Rev. Mr Isaacson delivered an impressive sermon and appropriate hymns were song. I understand that the fruit and vegetables displayed were given to the Pahiatna Hospital. Mr H. T. Ellinghani, of Horoeka, is a'candidate for the vacancy on the Wellington Land Board. Although in other towns a large nunjber of houses are empty, it is pleasing to note r.hat several houses are baing built in this town. The annual meeting of parishioners of St. Peter's Church last evening after the harvest thanksgiving services. The balance-sheet, as read showed a credit balance of nearly £2O. The Vicar in his report stated that Mrs D. Crewe had presented each child attending the Sunday School with a prayer book or card, and he also thanked all those who had worked for the Church during the past year.
