The crux of the Chicago wheat deal is whether Missouri can deliver the winter crop before July. Mr Patten—who has made enormous profits lately by buying for a rise —and the "Bulls" say "No." Mr Ogden, Mr Armour, and the "Bears" say "Yes." Mr Patten lost £120,000, on paper, through Tuesday's fall. A POSSIBLE CHECK. Received April 23, 10.10 a.m. LONDON, April 22. Mr Lloyd-George, Chancellor of the Exchequer, replying to a question in the House of Commons, said that a "corner" in wheat was not a matter that the Government could usefully legislate upon. He was, however, considering the possibility of increasing the stamp tax on options for the future which could only terminate in the buying of differences.
LONDON MARKET DULL. Received April 23, 10.10 a.m. LONDON, April 22. The wheat market is dull. Cargoes are about threepence per quarter easier. The American visible supply of wheat is 55,077,000 bushels.
