CARTERTON NEWS.
(From Our Resident Reporter.) Thursday'. Nominations closed to-day for the office of Mayor and Councillors. No nominations were received for the office of Mayor. The only ones nominated for the Council were William Toomath, Alfred Forbes Pink, and James Callister, Mr Tpomath was a member of the retiring Council. The fortnightly meeting of Court Marquis of Normanby, A.0.F., was held last evening. Five members were declared upon the sick fund. The application of Court Loyal Enterprise, Masterton, for the use of the Lodge's banner and sashes on May Ist was granted, and it was decided that as many members as possible from this Court assist at the Hospital demonstration. An invitation to a social on May 6th was received ±rom Court Loyal Enterprise. Mr John Brown presided at the monthly meeting of ths School Committee last evening, when the financial result of the recent concert was reported at £2O 13s 6d. A vote of thanks was passed to the school staff for their energetic efforts in connection with the concert. The Headmaster reported that there were 306 names on the roll, with an average atttendance of 281. The chairman reported having received the resignation of Mr A. Talbot, M.A., who had accepted a position at Greymouth, and a resolution of appreciation of his three years' service was placed on record. The sub-committee appointed to examine the agricultural plots, recommended that a variety of oats and other seeds be tested on the potato plot with regard to their respective production powers. The recommendation was adopted.
