The sporting reporter is usually a most reliable and virtuous person with the kind of infallibility that is generally ittributed only to a high church'functionary. But even Jove nods occasionally, and that is why a writer in the Christchurch "Star" recently wrote that "a great finish was seen between Lady Lylian and Ben Hur, only a week dividing them at the finish." He might as well have made it a lunar month while he was about it. The Lower Valley Jockey Club, Martinborougb, have resolved to apply to the Metropolitan Club for 30th September and Ist October as dates for their race meeting, in lieu of Boxing Day and the day following. The members are hoping that the change will be Lor the batter.
