CARTERTON NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter.) Friday. Mr S. Jensen, of Waihakeke, who' has been competing at the New Zealand Gun Club's Championship meeting, at Amberley, returned home this morning. Mr Jensen was not successful in winning the championship, but went very close to it. He, however, divided the prize in the Amberley match. The annual report of the Public Library is as follows —"Your committee beg to report that during the past year the interest in the Library has been maintained and the standard of the reading room kept up. The balance-sheet shows a credit balance of £4O 15s, which sum, inj view of fairly heavy expenditure during the year is deemed satisfactory. A supply of books ordered from the "Times" Book Club, duly came to hand, and proved of excellent value. Annual subsidies are gartefully acknowledged from the Carterton Borough Council, and the Wairarapa South County Council, and supplies of magazines and newspapers from subscribers and friends, In November last Miss E. M. Roydhouse resigned her position as Librarian, and the office was filled by Mr A. Peclen, who now resides on the premises. The committee rerget that the roll number of subscribers is not much larger. When the small amount of the annual subscription, and the advantages the institution offers are considered, it is difficult to understand why so few avail themselves of it. —W. Moore, chairman."
