Mr W. Beck, clerk to the Moutoa Drainage Board, has f.lso received the appointment of secretary to the Poxton Harbour Board. The many friends of Miss Nan Collier, who has been seriously ill for some days past, will be pleased to hear that she has now taken a turn for the better. Mr H. A. Parker, the well-known tennis player, has left Australia on a business visit to England. During the summer he will probably play in some of the leading tournaments in England and on the Continent. At Featherston last week Mr An gns Sutherland, of Martinborough was married to Miss Isabella Rose Claxton, daughter of Mr Claxton, of Dunedin. Miss Jessie Sutherland was bridesmaid, and Mr Thomas Shirkey best man. The friends of Mr and Mrs F. G. Wayne, of Thames, and formerly of Masterton, will regret to learn of a serious accident tu their four-year-old daughter Ruth. The child was kicked in the face by a horse, sustaining injuries of a severe nature. The child is progressing as well as can be expected. Mr Thomas Hall, for the last thirteen years District Land Registrar and Registrar of Deeds for Hawke's Bay, has been, appointed District Land Registrar, Registrar of Deeds and Examiner of Titles for the Auckland district, succeeding Mr Edwin Bamford, who has been appointed (Registrar-General of Lands. Mr Hall leaves Napier for Auckland in a few days. I During the absence of Mr W. P. 'James, S.M., who is on a holiday, the Magisterial duties are to be conducted by Mr C. C. Graham, S.M., and yesterday morning that gentleman occupied the Bench for the first time. A number of the members of the legal profession were present, and Mr R. K. Jackson, as senior member of the Bar in attendance, addressed a few words of welcome : to His Worship. The speaker said that exceptPfor the Easter holidays, | a much larger attendance of the Bar would certainly have been present. Personally, it gave him great pleasure to meet His Worship, as he had known him for about 30 years in the service, and the speaker expressed j the wish that, his Worship's stay in Matserton would be a pleasant one. In reply, Mr Graham thanked Mr Jackson for bis kind expressions of welcome, and hoped that the best of feelings would exist between the Bench and the Bar during his brief stay in Masterton.
