By Telegraph—Prees Association. WELLINGTON, April 11. At football Poneke defeated Albion (Christchurch) by 38 to nil, and Melrose beat Kaierau (WanganuiV by sto nil. The ground was wet and slippery, rain falling at intervals*] Play in the first-named match was uninteresting, Poneke practically running oyer their opponents. The issue in the Melrose—Kaierau contest, however, was practically in the balance to the end of the game. Just before time was called Melrose broke away and a try was scored and converted. A match between Polhill 111. and Masterton 111. was played on the Showgrounds on Saturday last. In the first spell Polhill scored a try, and in the second spell they scored four tries, two of which were con-' verted. The game ended in a win Polhill by 19 points to nil. For the winners tries were scored by B. Walker (3), J. Carmody (2). Gordon and E. Warner converted one try each.
