CARTERTON NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter.) Thursday. The Carterton Football Club have received a donation of a football from Mr T. H. Hughes. " At a meeting of the Fire Brigade, last evening, the sum of £1 was voted towards the fund in aid of the widow and children of a fireman who died recently in Christchurch. Fireman Sadler presented the Brigade with a photograph of the delegates who attended the conference held at Auckland, and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The Wairarapa Hockey Association were granted the use of the Showgrounds for matches at a rental of £2 2s per annum, at a meeting of the Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society to-day. Thi3 afternoon the general committee of the South Wairarapa Poultry Association met, and appointed the following committees: —Programme, Messrs C. Reid, J. Standen, W. B. Allen, E, Eagle junr., H. McPhee, H. DeHer, D. Reid, and R. J. Chapman; Protest, Messrs J. M. Lightfoot, W. B, Allen and C. Reid; Art Union, Messrs H. Catt, D. Reid, R. J. Chapman, E. Eagle junr., and the secretary. Matters concerning the holding of an egg-laying competition were held over until next meeting. The secretary was instructed to write to Mr T. H. Rutherford, of Masterton, acknowledging his suggestion in reference to the egg-laying competition, and to state that same would receive careful consideration. At a meeting of the Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society, this morning, notice of motion was given that the butter-fat competition be open to members of the Association, and not necessarily dairy factory[suppliers. The resignations of Messrs B. Rayner and Cruickshank were accepted, and Messrs H. Kempton, J. Adamson, W. A. Harvey, J. P. Prebensen, and J. H. McLeod were elected members. It was resolved to suggest that the conference of Pastoral Society delegates at Palmerston North should fix show dates.
