In other centres, the aspirants for Mayoral honours generally address the electors on matters of concerning heir policy. As showing to what an extent local politics ha-ye degenerated, there has not been an election here for the last three years, and the only announcement from thecandidate at present in the field merely refers to some unfounded rumour as to his not standing. However, it appears that another ''Richmond" will soon take the field, and it is said that the present Mayor will then have to look to his laurels. A good battle will liven up matters considerably, besides being to the interest of tlae ratepayers generally.
The annual fiarvsst thanksgiving servioes in connection with St. Paul's Church were held yesterday. Fruit, vegetables and flowers, the fruits of the season, were placed in a conspicuous place in the Church. The Rev. Chalmers Mill preached eloquent sermons both in the morning and evening. The choir sang the anthera "Captivity" at the evening service. A noticeable feature of the morning service was the large number of children present which no doubt is the result of the offering of prizes for the boys and girls attending the services regularly for twelve months. The idea is working out exceedingly well, and will probably have the desired effect of teaching the children to attend Church on Sundays. The fruit and vegetables displayed are to b6 given to the local Hospital.
