Wheat.—l2,soo quarters Australian January-February shipment, have been sold at 40s 10£ d per quarter; a cargo and 13,0002 quarters Jan-uary-February shipment, at 41s Id; three cargoes <md 12,000 quarters April-May shipment, at 41s 6d.
Rabbits.—Flat. Large Melbourne® are ietaiilng at 15s and 16s, Sydneys at 16s and 17s. • i Frozen Meat.— Sheep.— Canterbury, unchanged; North Island, 2 9-16dperlb; other sorts, unchanged. Lambs. Canterbury light 4 11-16 d, medium 4£d, heavy 4d; Southland, unquoted; North Island, 4id, selected 4Jd. Beef. Unchanged. Australian sheep —Heavy, unchanged; light, 27-16 d. Lambs, unchanged. Beef—Fores, unchanged; hinds, 3 l-16d. River Plate sheep.— Unchanged. Lambs— Unchanged. Beef — Fores, unchanged; hinds, 3£d.
THE BUTTER MARKET. Dalgety and Co., Limited, have eceived the following cable message from then; London House, dated Ist instant:—"The market is weaker, andthe future is difficult to forecast. Buyers are holding back. The Copenhagen official quotation is five kroners (about 5s 6d) per cwt lower. The total imports of butter into the United Kingdom for week ending 27th ultimo amounted to 91,000 cwt, as compared with 88,000 cwt for the corresponding week of 1908, showing an increase of 3,000 cwt. Quotations are:—Danish, 108s; New Zealand, salted. 100s; finest Australian, salted, 98s; ditto, unsalted, 100s."
HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, 3rd April:— - The matton market conth.ues dull. Large quantities have been put in store, and large shipments are expected. Canterbury mutton is quoted at Bid and North Island at 2fd per lb. market is depressed, although there is a better demand at present low prices on account of Easter. The following are the current quotations:—Canterbury lamb, 4§d; other than Canterbury, 4Jd; Australian, 3Jd per lb.. There is a better demand for beef, hindquarters being quoted at 3&d and forequarters.at 2Jd lb. The butter market is dull. Large buyers have withdrawn from the market, and prices have declined. holders sales. There is a considerable quantity of the butter now arriving being placed in cold store. Buyers express dissatisfactiun with New Zealand butter this season on account of increased moisture. Current quotations are:— Choicest New Zealand, 983; Australian, 965; Danish, 109s; Argentine, 975; Siberian, 98s per cwt. The cheese market is quiet but firm, white makes being quoted at 61s and coloured at 64s per cwt.
The hemp market is quiet but rather steadier. Stock held in London amounts to 210 tons. Current quotations are:—Good fair grade, on spot, £23 ss; fair grade, on spot, £2l 10s; fair current Manila, on spot, £23. April-June shipment: Good fair grade, £23; fair grade, £2l; fair current Manila, £2l. Last week's Manila output amounted to 22,000 bales. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet, and buyers are not keen to do business. Bright clean 171b seed is quoted at 80s.
