A SIGN OF THE TIMES

TRAFFIC FALLING OFF.

NORTH GERMAN LLOYD

COMPANY

REDUCTION OF SURPLUS

Received April 5, 9.25 a.m. BERLIN, April 4.

The North German Lloyd Company reports that the unprecedented falling off in the number of immigrants to the Unted States, the depression in trade, and the freights wars, have resulted in a reduction of the surplus to 9,218,000 marks against 32,697,000 (about £1,630,000) at the end of 1907.

The company will be obliged to draw on its entire reserve and renewal funds in order to carry out the necessary writing off'operations.
