CHRISTCHURCH, April 5,

The Waiau Hotel, which was crowded with visitors, was destroyed by fire on Sunday morning. . There were many narrow escapes, 1 but no lives were lost. Val Vousden, the well-known entertainer, jumped from a balcony, escaping injury with the exception of slight burns on the body. No further details are yet to hand.
