ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION.
LIEUT. SHACKLETON AND PARTY BANQUETED. By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, April 4. Lieut. Shackleton and the members of the Antarctic Expedition and officers of the Nimrod were entertained by the Canterbury Philosophical Institute at a banquet on Saturday. "The proceedings were most enthusiastic and there was a krge and representative attendance, including the Hon. Mr Buddo. Replying to the toast of the expedition, Lieut. Shackleton acknowi lodged the help it received from I Scott's Discovery Expedition, and expressed the hope that a Britisher would, locate the Souh Pole, and that the work of the Nimrod Expedition was useful in attaining that object. Lieut. Shackleton received an enthusiastic ovation, the gueats rising and cheering him to the echo. Bishop Grimes, in proposing the toast of "The Army and Navy," warmly eulogised New Zealand's offer of a Dreadnought.
