Every youth in the country should be taught how to handle a rifle and to use it to the best advantage, and that can only be done by an efficient system of training. To carry out the system some sacrifice of time, pleasure, and money would be required, but when the enormous value of na tional and private wealth is considered there should be no carping criticism or delay over the institution of a scheme that means so much to us as a nation. It is for the Government to take the initiative, says the"Manawatu Standard." Hitherto they have been averse to the proposal, but the rapidity with which events are moving at Home may bring them to a full realisation of New Zealand's requirements.
