THE SKATING SEASON.
OPENING OP ELITE RINK. The skating season opened; in Masterton last evening, when the Elite Skating Rink in Dixon street (be hindjthe Club Hotel) was filled with a throng of 'enthusiastic rinkers, who imparted considerable vigour into their first efforts for the season. The floor was in splendid order, having been specially prepared at considerable trouble, and the skates having'been renovated since last season, those who donned the speedy if elusive "rollers" bad two hours and a-balf of solid enjoyment. , Skating promises to be again a popular pastime in Masterton this season, as numbers of private skates were disposed of last evening, and the management of the rink have decided to give special attention in future to the adjusting of skates, to allow patrons to take the floor without tedious waiting. . ■ A brass orchestra played a number of very enjoyable selections during the evening, which added materially to the'attraction of the rink. The hour of opening each evening will be 7.30 o'clock, day skating to be as last season.
