WOOL SALES.
LONDON. Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their agents in London, dated March 27th, 1909:—March sales—Merinos generally closed at an advance of 5 per cent, on opening rates, buyers generally operating freely. . Fine crossbreds closed at an advance of 1\ per cent, on opening rates. Continental buyers operating freely. Crossbreds, medium and coarse, closed on a par with the opening rates. Five thousand bales of New Zealand wool have been carried forward to the next series. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London office: compared with last sales closing rates prices are about 10 per cent, to 15 per cent, higher for fine greasy crossbred; about 5 per cent, higher for lambs, greasy merino super, coarse greasy crossbred; about 5 per cent, to 7i per cent, higher for crossbred slipe and scoured crossbred; about 7§ to 10 per cent., higher for merino, scoured and greasy merino medium. Outlook is encouraging. Average current London value for the undernoted descriptions of New Zealand greasy wool. Good merino 13d, medium merino lid, inferior 9Jd, fine, crossbred 13Jd, medium crossbred IOJd, coarse crossbred (4<Q's) Bd, coarse crossbreds (36's) 7 jd. Wool sales—lß3,ooo bales sold, 69,000 bales for Continent. Sales closed strong: 18,000 bales taken for America, 13,000 bales held over.
