(From Our Resident Reporter). /Saturday. A meeting of creditors jn the estate of A. J. Birt, builder, was held in Mr J. D. Wilson's office to-day. The bankrupt's liabilities amount to £149 7s 3d, and assets £59 17s, leaving a deficiency of £B9 10s 3d. Bankrupt attributed his failure in business to losses on building contracts. Some people driving into the local livery stables have the habit of driving from the road to the inside of the stables at a pace far too quick for the safety of those about the stables, on a busy day, and this may be the cause of an accident it the practice is continued. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., add several lines of sheep and cattle to then fortnightly sale on Tuesday next. The milk supply at the Mangatainoka cheese factory is still keeping up well for this time of year, and the avenge test is exceptionally good, being about 4.3. So far this t season about 130 tons of cheese have been shipped Home, the cheese is bringing a good price in the Home market. During the last few days the manager, Mr Patterson, has been busy manufacturing cheese for exhibition at the Palmerston North Winter Show.
Mr and Mrs W. Dunning accompanied by their son, Mr S. F. Dunning, of the staff of Messrs Abraham and Williams, will leave Pahiatua about April sth for a trip to England. Thev will leave Wellington by the steamer Manuka on April Blh for Sydney, where after a fortnight's sightseeing, they leave for London .via Suez by the P. and 0. steamer "Mamora." They take with them the best wishes of the residents of this district for a pleasant trip and safe return. Mr and Mrs Dunning and son expect to return to New Zealand in October next. 'ihe owner of a rough-haired bobtail dog is advertised for in another column. Mr and Mrs H. Cornelius, of Mangahao, have just returned from a , holiday trip to Rotorua and Auckland. MAKOMAKO NOIES. The milk supply at the creamery is decreasing, owing to j dry weather that has been experienced in the district. The manager, Mr Byers, has been very attentive to the wants of the suppliers during the present season, and has gained general admiration for the manner ill whcich he has carried out his duties. The local School Committee have had a very successful veur as regards finance, and after effecting general improvements the sum of £8 stands to the committee's credit. Part of this amount is to be spent in levelling the playground, and part in cutting firewood for the winter. In connection with the successful social held recently in aid of the School Library Funds the committee to-day purchased £5 worth of books to be added to the Library. Mr Eising intends to erect an up-to-date milking machine pl»nt ready for next season. • Trout have been very plentiful this season, and some good catches have been reported. The turnip crops about here are suffering owing to the dry weather, arid more rain is needed to bring the roots to maturity. Dipping operations have been i'i fall swing for the last fortnight, and very tew sheep now remain to be dipped. Mr Allan Campbell was the means this morning of restoring a pocketbook containing ever £B4 to a Hukanui resident, who lost the book in the Main street, where it was found by Mr Campbell. BOWLING. At the local bowling green this afternoon the holders of the "Norton" Feathers were challenged by Messrs Ashcroft, Walsh, Mills and Mcßratney (skip). The challengers were in splendid form, and succeeded in winning the contest by 28 to 13 Mr Wakeman played for the holders as substitute for Mr Hawkins, the rink being Messrs Wakeman, Burgess, Hewat and Ransom (skip). This rink held the Feathers for part ot last season, and this is the sixth challenge match played this year for the trophy. In the "Colts" trophy 1 competition Mr Pearcey succeeded in defeating Mr Ciifton in two games, the first by 32 to 9, and the second by 26 to 1.7.
Messrs Pearcey and Mills will now play the final two games, for possession of the trophy.
