CARTERTON NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter.) Ihuraday. About fifty couples occupied the floor at the dance held last evening: in the Clareville Hall, the M'sC. being Mr W. B. Alkn and C. Reid. Dyer, of ■ Clareville, purposes leaving on a trip to England next month, sailing in the Cori'ithic At a special meeting of the Borough. Council last evening, the Mayor moved that a special rate of five-sixteenths of a penny in the £ be trade, and this will come up for confirmation at a meeting of the 'Council on April 27th. The rate is as security of a loan for £2OO for the extension of the drainage scheme to Rhodes Street. Followers of hockey here held a practice on Carrington Park this afteipoon. The funeral of the late Mr M. McLeod, sawmiller, who died at Otaki on Monday, took place at the Clareville Cemetery this afternoon. The examination of applicants f..r section-5 on the Carrington Estate will commence to-morrow morning. They total 69. The Rover Football Club held their annual meeting last evening, Mr E. A. Edwaids being in the chair. A credit balance of £5 14s 6d was reported, and it waa decided to play a match on Easter Monday with the Petone Club. It was decided to open the season with a practice on April Ist, and the subscription was fixed the same as last year. The following officers were elected: —Patron, Mr T. Shaw; President, Mr W. M. Halley; Vice-Presidents, Messrs B. Wadham, P. Costin, T. H. Hughes, J. Fraser, A. C. Feast, and E. Patrick; Auditors, Messrs H.Hart and W.Hall; Secretary and' Treasurer, Mr J. Gayfer; management committee, Mesprs Gayfer, J. McGuinness, and Edwards; Delegates to Thursday Union, Messrs J. Gayfer, J. McGuinness, and F. Fairbrother.
