(From Our Resident Reporter.) Wednesday. The Carterton cricket team to continue the match against Masterton here on Saturday is: -P'eabt, C. Gallon, Elliott, Hart, Hutchinson, Maunsell, Sievers, Smart, Tunnicliffe, and C. Williams. Bugler M. Fairbrother, of the local Rifle Volunteers, has received a letter from Lieutenant-Colonel Bauchop, Offif.er Commanding Wellington District, commending him for his soldierly work in connection with his own corps, and also the boy scouts, of which he is patrol leader. The monthly meeting of the Borough Council was heli last evening,, when the statement of finances showed a total credit of £361, 14s Id, and accounts amounting to £3Bl 3s 9d were passed for payment. Mr Ray, who waited on the Council in reference to damage done to his property, was informed that the work of repairing the same would be put in hand on Wednesday. The Mayor reported that the overseer had" caulked up several leaks in the reservoir, but there was still a large one left. The Gas Committee recommended a reduction in the price of gas as follows:—For lighting, grilr lers and rings, 10s per 1,000 feet nett;andfor engines and cookers, 7s 6d; the usual discount of lOd per thousand feet to be allowed to consumers using 5,000 feet and over, for lighting purposes only. The recommendation was adopted, and will come into operation on April Ist. An application from Mr H. Neilson for a crossing to his property was granted, subject to a payment of 15s cost of same.
