COLLAPSE OF A ROOF.
FATAL ACCIDENT AT PETONE. ONE MAN KILLED; SEVERAL OTHERS INJURED. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 24. Through the collapse of a steel roof in the course of construction on a new building at the Gear Company's Petone Works, a number of workmen were injured. One man, named Samuel Wilson, among other injuries, sustained a compound fracture of the leg. He was taken to the Hospital, but died there. The worst cases among the others ara Stanley Towney, three ribs broken and thigh injured, and Thomas Cross, a well-known New Zealand representative footballer, whose sine and back are injured. No explanation is given for the collapse of the roof,' but it is suggested that the intense heat yesterday may have caused the principals at one end to buckle and carry away the supports. There were eleven steel principals, each weighing two tons.
