A meeting of ratepayers interested in the road from Tinui to Aniiadale, was held in the County office, on Saturday last, to consider the advisability of raising a special loan to complete the metalling of some five mibs of this road, writes our correspondent. The approximate cost was shown to be about £3,800, and to pay interest and other charges on a loan with a currency of 41 years at 3J per cent, would require a special rate to be made over all the properties interested of a farthing in the pound. The majority of the ratepayers present were opposed to a loan beine raised fur several reasons; amongst them were the following:— That the metal obtainable was not of good quality, and would wear out in a few years, and they would then have to pay special rates for a long period, and have bad roads at the same time. Other ratepayers stated that they would oppose a loan until the riding boundaries were amended. One ratepayer was in favour of a loan provided it would reduce the general rate, and that the system of metalling with loan money would be applied to all the roads in the County. A resolution was moved and seconded--"That it was not desirable to raise a loan to complete the metalling on the Tinui-Annedale road." At this juncture a couple of runaway horses in a buggy caused the meeting to terminate abruptly, and several of those present gave chase after the runaways. After a run of over two miles the horses were secured, no damage having been done to either the animals or buggy. A thoroughly domesticated lady seeks position in motherless home.
