JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP.
UNITED 11. v. CARTERTON II
The Masterton 11. and Carterton 11. commenced a Junior Championship match, on the Park Oval, on Saturday last. United batted first, and made 113. Haviland gave a fine, free exhibition for 67, including a large number of hits out of the ground. Walker (13) also played well. Carterton replied with 70, the principal scorers being F. Fairbrother (19), Saywell (16) and McKenzie (14). In their second inninys United have lost 7 wickets for 45, Haviland (not out 28) giving another good display. The following were the scores: —

ST. MATTHEW'S v.. MAURICEVILLE. The match St. Matthew's v. Mauriceville, - in the Junior Championship, was finished at Mauriceville on Saturday last. The home team put together 38 runs in their first innings, and 63 in their second. St. Matthew's made 68 in their first innings, and had 34 to make in their second innings to win the match. This they failed to do, their eight batsmen compiling seven runs between them (Simonson 5). The small score is attributed by the St. Matthew's Club members to the state of the wicket.
