SWIMMING CARNIVAL.
GIRLS' DAY.
In spite of the unfavourable weather conditions, the girls' competition in connection with the Masterton School Swimming Carnival took place in the Borough Baths yesterday afternoon. A programme of 15" events, with 141 entries, was got ' through in good style by the starters and judges. The girls entered into the contests very keenly,- and gave a fine display of swimming in its various branches. The judge .reported that the School Championship race was an excellent display of strong swimming on the part of girl=i, and also that wonderful improvement was shown in all the events, both in style and pace. Very -complete arrangements were made by the Headmaster, Mr W. H. Jackson, and the function was most successfully carried through by the ladies who were in charge of it.
The judging was ably performed by Mrs J. W. Blackman (President of the Ladies' Swimming Club), Mrs D. M. Graham, Mrs J. Caselberg, and Miss M. Payton. The starters were Misses Munro and Williams. Miss Wolff, assisted by the other lady teachers, marshalled the competitors for each event, and the whole of the contests were got off with great regularity and promptitude. Afternoon tea was served by ' Mesdames W. H. Jackson, R. Brown, C. N: Haslam, C. Perry,' Cook and Cameron;
Mr and Mrs Palls, the custodiaps of the baths, rendered every assistance and helped to make the function the great success it proved to be. The trophies won will be presented next week, together with the ] rizes won in connection with the gardens, the Horticultural Show prizes, and the shooting prizes won by the cadets. / The following is a complete list of the winners of the swimming events: —>
