(From Our Resident Reporter). Thursday. GENERAL. The Maharahara Sports (near ■WoodvilJe) were held yesterday. The 75 Yards Dash was won by W. Henderson; England won the 220 yards ■flat, Hughes breasted the tape first In the 440 yards, and the half mile was won by Rosenfelt, Perfect running into second place. The Sunday School Anniversary in connection with the Methodist Church wa3 held last evening. The prizes gained by the scholars during the year for good conduct and attendance were presented by the Rev. Speers. Recitations were given by several of the children, and the children under the baton of Mr Clough rendered appropriate hymns and solos. Lodge Mangatainoka, 1.0.0. F., M.U., met last evening, Bro. Boyens, N.G., presiding. Ordinary lodge business was transacted, including the passing for payment of the sum of £ll 10s for sick pay. In another column Mr A. Ga-ma-way notifies that he has opened business as a pork butcher and fish merchant in premises recently occupied by Mrs Dixon, fruicirar. air Gannaway has had a wide previous Experience in Napier, and intends to make a specialty of small pork goods. At an early date Mr Gannaway intends to supply fish meals daily, and he will no doubt be well patronised.

MANGATAINOKA NOTES. The following team will represent the local Club on the local ground in tbe cricket match against Pahiatua en Saturday next, at 2 p.m. sharp:— Chatwin, Pearcey, Bacon, Hawke, Grace, Durand, Crawford, Williams, Davin, Clapham, Brockett. Emergencies, May and Ashby. Miss Sicely, who ior some time past has been on the teaching staff of the Mangatainoka School, is shortly to leave to take up similar duties at the Hutt. The] Mangatainoka Cricket Club intend to hold a social in the Library Hall on Easter Monday evening. Mr H. Cowan, senior, has been called to Auckland to see his brother, who is seriously ill. Latest reports state there is a slight improvement ior the better in Mr Cowan. The last few days' rain has freshened all the pastures.

FOOTBALL NOTES. Although yet early in the season it is anticipated that the senior teams this year will be very good. From renorts the NireahaJ team will be an exceptionally strong one, as several good men from the Kaipororo Sawmills are now at Nireaha. The Mangatainoka team should also be better than in previous years. I understand that Cresswell, an old Taranaki player, and W. Palmer, for several years half for the Woodville Seniors, will be' included in their ranks. The Pahiatua Club will hold its annual meeting] on Thursday next. Several players who are onlyjrecent arrivals here intend to join the Pahiatua team. The Konini footballers will find it somewhat hard to get a Etrong team together, as several of their good players have left. However, as they have been victorious for several years, it is more than likely that they will rally together and do their utmost to again win the banner. The Pahiatua Recreation Ground, where the Pahiatua* team play, is at present in rather a bad state, rushes growing nearly all over the ground. It is to be hoped that the Pahiatua Club will move in this matter at their meeting on Thursday next, both for their own, and visiting teams' benefit. The Old Boys held a practice yesterday afternoon in anticipation uf the seven-aside tournament wnich is to be held shortly. I understand the winners will be presented with caps.
