Mr T. P. Walshe, of the Napier "Deeds Registry Office, has been k ' transferred to Wellington. Mr Ennnr, of the Land and Deeds Office, Gisborne, has been appointed to the Land Transfer Office, Napier Mr Heald, the stationmaster at Carterton, left yesterday on his annual holiday, writes our Carterton correspondent. Mr T. Kempton, of Morison's Bush, who has been seriously ill, is making satisfactory progress towards recovery. Mr Richard Off wood, who came to New Zealand in the ship Southern Cross an] 1857, died in Christchurch on Sunday last. Mr F. Rule has resigned his position as Presbyterian home missionary at Patea, in order to take an appointment in Christchurch. Constable, Slattery, a native of Patea, died in the Auckland Hospital, yesterday morning, after undergoing an operation for appendicitis. He was unmarried. Mr J. J. Turnbull, at present chief bailiff af the Magistrate's Courr,, Christchurch, succeeds Mr E. W. Seager. as crier at the Supreme Court in that city. r Mr Clements, who has been engaged as professional to the Greytown Golf Club, arrived at Greytown on Monday last, and commenced his duties yesterday. * The dsath took place at Gladstone load, Parnell, on Friday last of Mrs Ellen H; Lusk, wife of Major D H. iAisk, the first Provincial Treasurer t)f Auckland, and first chairman and honorary engineer of the Waitomo County. Mr Hamilton Hodges, tha wellknown baritone, of Auckland, has definitely decided to leave New Zeal- | and and proceed to England, where lie has several very tempting, engarments offered him. Great regret will be felt at the loss to New Zealand of so fine a singer. - Thlfdeath is announced of Mr W. If. Walker, resident secretary fcr the Australian Mutual Provident Society in Victoria, who died at Brisbane Mr Walker, who waa born in London in 1852,. and *as, consequently, 56 year3*of age, entered the Sydney office of the Australian Mutual Provident Society early in 1870 as a junior clerk, .and worked his way up through various positions. He was in nearly all the States at various times, *as accountant or resident secretary. At the end of 1895, being then resident secretary for Queensland, he was appointed resident secretary for Victoria in succession tn Mr Nicholas Maine, who rei Urea after holiing the position for 27
