STRENGTH OF TwE ARMY. STATEMENT BY MINISTER OF DEFENCE. Received March 12, 9 a.m. OTTAWA, March 11. Sir Frederick Borden, Canadian Minister fur Defence, states thit the Militia numbers 47,500 men. The Canadian defence scheme for 1910 will cost £1,222,600. Th« first line of defence will consist of IW'.OOO men, and the second line of 2<"''-,JOO.
