Nominations for all events except the Maiden Hack Race, in connection with the Masterton Racing Club meeting, will close with the secretary, Mr A. Hatha way,' at 9.30 o'clock this evening. Mr Hathaway visited Dannevirke yesterday, and was successful in securing a number of nominations for th.3 meeting from that district.

(By "Zetland".) Nominations for Masterton meeting will close to-night with the secretary, Mr A. Hathaway. A number of entries have already been received, and thfcre is every reason to exptct a good response on the part of owners and trainers gencia'ly. Various statements having been circulated relative to the breeding of the Wanganui Cup winner, Kilmarnock, inquiries have been made with the result that it has been found that his dam was by the well-known horse, The Australian. In all his efforts this season, Kilmarnock has given evidence of being a thorough stayer, and there are many sportsmen who contend that he will gain further victories in the near future. The Datmevirke .meeting, which, opened ytsterdav in fine weather, was one of the most successful held by the Club. Racing commenced with the Hack Hurdles, and the Sou'wester gelding, Hipporofla, won a good race from Scenery. The Mar-tinborough-owned Narcotic, did not run up to expectations, but when he jumps more proficiently will have to be reckoned with. Specioss filled third place, and is improving. A good field went out for the Makirikiri Hack, of six furlongs. Mr T). Buick's Papakura colt, Aberbrothock, half-brother to Sandix, was made a firm favourite, and won from Full 1 Kate's sister, Kimmerian, who appears to be fated to run seconds. Then came the Dannevirke Cup, one mile and a quarter. As usual Merrie Rose cut out the running at a very solid pace. Entering the straight she was passed by Sandstrearh, who appeared to be winning, when Gold Lace put in her claim and in a good finish gained the judge's verdiet. The top weight, Woodhey, filled third position, and her runnng w; s meritorious. The Nursery Handicap brought out a nice field of two-year-olds, and victory went to "Mr Highden's" Pilgrim's Progress colt, Boanerges, the Hon. J. D. Ormond's Daybeam being second. The speedy St. Ambrose filly, Milan, who sustained a fall at Wanganui, last week, did not take part in t! e race. An outsider. Ryland. scored in the Tahoraite Welter, with Goodwin Park second. The Cockatoo, lOst 91b, was scratched for this race, his party preferring to start him in the Tamaki Welter later in the day, in which The Possible gelding's weight was 9st. Th 3 well backed Merriwee filly, Vi, was victorious in the Flying Stakes, Pluck, by Merriwee —• Victoria Cross, being runner-up in what was a fairly strong field.
