ALPINE CLIMBING.
ASCENT OF MOUNT COOK. By Telegraph—Presa Association. GREYMOUTH, March 9. Advice was received to-day of the ascent cf Mount Cook by a new route over the rocks on the western face from the Hooker glacier—hitherto considered impassable. The ascent was made on Friday by Mr Earl, an English Alpine climber, with guides Graham (2), and Clarke. It occupied seven and a quarter hourj. The descent was made by the north-western route.
