MR BURNS AND THE ADMIRALTY.
A REFUSAL. I Received March 9, 9 a.m. LONDON, March 8. Heckled >n the House of Commons ! concerning the use of Norwegian ' granite at the Rosyth Naval DocKs instead uf Irish or British, the Right Hon, John Burns (President of the Local Government Board), refused to grant the Admiralty £30,000 —the difference in the cost of Scandinavian and British material —for the purpose of giving work to the unemployed. MAILBAG CANVAS. GOVERNMENT ACCEPTS FOREIGN TENDERS. Received March 9, 10 a.m. LONDON, March 8. The "Daily Express" reports that the Right Hon. H. Gladstone, Home Secretary, has ordered from French and Belgium firms many thousand pounds worth of mailbag canvas. The difference between the British and foreign tenders was about a halfpenny a yard.
