SLY GROG-SELLING.
By Telegraph—Press Afsoriation. ASHBURTON, March 5. William Porter was ri»-d £SO and costs for sly grog-selling in the Ashburton district. GORE, March 5. At the Gore Court this morning, Mr Kenrick, S.M., imposed a fine of £3 and court costs 7s against Frederick Dickson, charged with selling whisky on 19th January last in a No-License district. He stated that there was no evidence of sale but to persons employed by the police for the purpose, and added: "I think a small fine will meet the case." Charles Pumpa, for selling beer, pleaded guilty, and was fined £lO, with costs 7s. Malachi Hanley, previously convicted, was sentenced to imprisonment for 14 days, but the warrant was suspended during the illness of his daughter. He was ordered to come up again on 25th March.
