CARTERTON.
(From Our Resident Reporter). Friday. Archdeacon Fancourt was a visitor to Carterton yesterday, and during the day visited the Maori College, at Clareville. The members of the Land Board are to arrive by this evening's train, and they will meet to-morrow to,cunsider the applications of those who claim preference in selection in connection with the Carrington Estate, on the ground of having worked upon it, or for other reasons. The Kaka and Kiwi patrol of boy scouts were put through ambulance •work and first-aid practice by Scout Master Lieutenant Toomath. last night. There was a full muster, and the lads took a keen interest in the instructions given. On Sunday the Kaka patrol purpose visiting the Masterton patrol. The Rev. R. Young will conduct a Church of England service at Parkvale on, Sunday evening, and Gladstone in the morning. The secretary of the local brass band acknowledges with thanks the xeeeiDt of £1 from Mr R. Cooper, of Gladstone. The local Gun Club will meet on Tuesday evening to consider what assistance it can give the Greytown Club in regard to the holding of the clay bird championship in June next at Greytown. An accident befell Misses Whyte, L. Fisher and A. Pull, when driving along the Maaterton-Carterton road last evening. The horse shied . and fell, throwing the occupants of the gig out on to the hard road. The horse then bolted, and arrived safely home. The ladieß were considerably bruised and shaken, as the result of their mishap. The health of Mr D. Thomas, of North High street, continues to be about the same. Rain is badly needed throughout this district.
