PAHIATUA NEWS.
(From Our Resident Reporter). Friday. The fortnightly meeting of Lodge Pahiatua, U.A.0.D., was held in the Foresters' Hall, last evening, and was attended by a large number of members. Bro. Swiggs, A.D., occupied the chair. The quarterly returns were read and shewed the Lodge to be in a sound financial position. Two new membei's were initiated and seven were proposed for membership. One of the members lias donated a trophy valued at £1 to the member who is the means of enrolling the most members for the six months ending May next, and this has caused great enthusiasm amongst the Lodge members. It was decided at a later date to challenge the other Pahiatua Lodges to a friendly euchre tournament. At the meeting of the Pahiatua County Council, which i 3 to be held in the County Chambers, to-morrow (Saturday), estimates will be given for the making, etc., of the proposed footpath between the town and Pahiatua Railway Station. The footpath is at present partly made, but there is still nearly a mile to form. This footpath, if nude, will greail. benefit the residents <>( Scarborough. as well as people wishing to go to and from the railway station. A cricket match will be played on the Recreation Ground tu-morraw afternoon between a team from Eketahuna and a local eleven. Several plants of ragwort out in .full bloom are to be seen growing along the railway line between Eketahuna and Pahiatua. Mr and Mrs H. Cornelius, of Mangahao, intend to take a motor trip to Rotorua next week. Mr Edwin Aphby, the well-known storekeeper, of Mangatainoka, has laen appointed agent for the"Wairarapa Age" and copies may be obtained from his store after the arrival of the first morning train from the Wairaraoa. So far the Hon. A. W. Hogg has rat yet paid his promised visit to Pahiatua and district, but Mr R. B. Ross is expecting him daily, and the settlers in the backblocks are making great preparations to give him a xight royal welcome. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., have a very large entry of sheep, for their sale at the P. F.A. yards on Tuesday, the large number of 5,000 have already been advertised.
