WANGANUI RACE?., By Telegraph—Press Association. WANGANJU, March 4. The Wanganui .Jockey Club's autumn meeting was opened to-day in glorious weather. There was a large attendance. The totalisator put through £12,468, as against £11,048 for the first day last year. Twentyfour bookmakers were present. Results:— Stewards' Handicap—Tan San 1, Tiptoe 2, Arclight 3. Also started —St. Aidan, Belario and Flotilla. Won by a length and a-half, Arclight a neck away. Petra Hack—Courier 1, Miss Mischief 2, Mulga Bill 3. Also started —Te Kauhurangi, Clemora, Burton, Flying Wind, Stevers, Toanga, Mania, Muse, Vinto. Won by a neck. Time, lmin 16sec. Westmere Hurdles.—Maidi ], Ccmm.\nc!er 2, Tondergbie 3. Also
started—Exmoor, Aorangi, Don Carlos and Waimaria. Won with the greatest of ease by two lengths. Time, 4min lsec. | Tayforth Hack Hurdles.—Whimper 1, Chase Mab 2, Tauira 3. | CjRICKET. :iriie match Carterton v. Ahiakouka Was played at Carterton yesterday afternoon, writes our Carterton correspondent, and was won by the home team by an innings and 53 runs. Carterton made 190 in their first innings (Fhelps 116 not out, A. Feast 35). Ahiakouka made 47 (H. Feast 18, A. Cundy 11). In their second , attempt Ahiakouka made 90 (C. G. | Williams 21, G. H. Williams 21 not out, W. Feast 11). The visitors especially desire to thank the ladies for the afternoon t:a supplied.
