Gaelic is now being schooled over the hurdles, and as a jumper should prove usoful during the autumn and winter. The Kilcheran— Prelude colt, purchased by Mr G. Hume at the Waikanae stud sale, is now being handled by T. Ross. Mr H. McManaway's colt by San Fran—Spring is to be sent to H.
Fletcber's stable at Tauherenikau shortly to be handled preparatory to being put into work for two-year-old racing. Blue Kibbon is doing excellent work at Wanganui, and her chance in the Cup is well thought of by ; many sportsmen, who considre the Bluejacket mare a real stayer. Golden Rein, the half-brother to Silken Rein, has been schooled over the obstacles at Tauherenikau, and has acquitted himelf creditably. The course proper at Opaki has been top-dressed from the five furlong post to the bottom of the straight. The racing track will be in excellent order for the forthcoming autumn meeting. Skye has resumed work at Opaki, and will probably be raced at the Masterton meeting. The Conqueror—Lady Principal j colt, and the Saracen—Princess Agnes filly are going on alright in their work at Opaki. The Wanganui Cup will by run on Thursday, and with a field of about twelve starters, promises to be a very interesting race. All the acceptors are doing satisfactory work, and the meeting of the following this season's winners—All Red (Auckland Cup), Downfall (New Zealand Cup), Apa (Rangitikei Cup),' Tangimoana (Mauawatu Cap), Blue Ribbon (Wellington Cup), Roosevelt (Pahiatua Cup), Kilmarnock (runnerup in Foxton Cupl—should result in the contest being a well fought out o;/e.
The Tauhcrenikau course is now being altered in shape, so as to allow a better curve into the straight. The work will be finished in ample time for the Easter meeting.
