(From Our Resident Reporter). Saturday. ' TENNIS. ' i The match between Pahiatua and "Dannevirke at the latter courts to- | flay was won by Pahiatua by 12 ! games. The Pahiatua players motored through this morning, and arrived back in Pahiatua about 9 o'clock this evening. They report having hxl a splendid 3ay's outing. BOWLING. Two very interesting games of 3>owls were played on the local green to-day. The colts rink, consisting of Messrs Ashcroft, Pearcey, Mills, and Walsh (skip), tried to wrestle the feathers from the old veteran players, Messrs Burgess, Ransom Hawkins and Hewat (skip.) The colts played a good game, and did not by any means allow the holders to ion away from them. The final scores were— Feather holders, 22; colts, 15. The keenest interest was taken in the final for the President's trophy, between Mr John Hughes and Mr Petherick. Petheric< ••-■a ran ica;, 0f.2, and at first Hughes ran away from him, leading at the 12th head by 14 to 7. At the 19th head Petherick had equalled Hughes" score, and the game stood 16 ail. Hughes increased his score to 20 in the 20th head, and the final head gave him <one. He thus won a hard fought game by 21 to 16. GENERAL. Mesrss Walkley and Hill, of the Mangatainoka store, are having several alterations made to their premises. Football is already being talked about in these Darts, and the Mangatainoka Club will hold its annual meeting abcut the middle of March. At the local Police Court this morning before Messrs J. D. Wilson and John Hughes. J.sP.', a seafaring i man named William Brown, a first offender, was convicted and dis- j chared on a.charge of'drunkenness, j and on a charge of varancy the same j offender was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when cailed upon. Miss O'Brien, of the Pongaroa Telegraph department, is seriously ill. Her place is being temporarily taken by Miss Coe. Mrs Ross, wife of Mr R. B. Ross, M.P., who has been on a trip for the benefit of her health to the South Island, returned yesterday, much benefited by the holiday. Mr J. E. Hewitt, who recently purchased Mr P. Quirk's Ranfurly Park property at Konini, was the purchaser of one of the high priced Romney Marsh rams at the Masterton Ram Fair. Mr W. Sedcole is building a fine large house on his section near Mr W. I. Husband's handsome residence. It is not often that an M.P.'s work is appreciated by those opposed to bim politically. Mr R. B. Ross, M.P., recently received a letter from three leading Conservative settlers in the Ballance district, expressing high appreciation of his work.
The road between Weber and Waione is in rather a bad state at present, the rivei having flooded a good portion of it. The negotiations between the License and No-License parties in reference to trying to save the expense of an election have fallen through, and the No-License Party will be represented by Messrs E. Harding, D. Hughes, Harris, Hawkins, and J. B. Tait at the forthcoming election. The License party are endeavouring to persuade Mr W. Norrell to stand in their interests, while Mr Walsh and Mr Boiton are likely candidates. Messrs J. A. Walsh, Hawkins, D. Hughes, Harris, and E. Harding seem to have the genera) public support. The Rev. Chambers Mill will conduct the services in St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, commencing on Monday, March Ist, and lasting until Friday evening The services will commence at 7.45 o'clock.
