CRICKET NOTES.
(By Cover Point). CARLTON v. W.F.C.A. The Carlton and W.F.C.A. teams commenced a match on the Park Oval yesterday afternoon. Carlton won the toss, and batted first. Three wickets were down for 12 when Styles, who went in first, and Madsen, became associated. They both settled down quickly, Madsen having a particular liking for Moorehouse's slows. Some capital cricket was witnessed, and it was not till 131 was up that a separation was effected, Madsen playing Wilkie on. Madsen had played a grand innings lor 75, not giving a chance. He opened out at times, reminding one of the days when he was the big hitter of the old Greytown team. His score included seven 4's, four 3's, and nine two's. Shortly after Styles was bowled, having made 55 in splendid style. He never gave a chance, and many of his runs were made by pretty cricket. His score included nine i fours. It was the best innings of the ! day.' T. Hoar hit out for 28 (including six 4's), but the remainder of the team did not "naterially increase tne score, which finally reached 178. ■ Welch bowled well, taking 6 wickets for 61, while Wilkie 4 for 29 also did good work with the ball. ; W.F.C.A. started their innings with Oj*ier and Moorehouso, and runs came.merrily for a time, and 39 was up before the pair were separated. Ogier played a nice bat for 22, while Moorehouse scored his 19 by fine hit?. Some more lively play was witnessed while Smith was at the wickets. He gave a very free exhibition of batting, and he had notched 40 before he ran himself out. He had scored five 4's, two 3's and four 2's. Casc-lberg played well for his nke runs, made up of a2, 3 and a 4, but the rest of the team went very quickly, the innings finally closing for 10. Moss, t. Hoar.. The ncn-fulfilment of the engagement is not lair to Carterton, and the Cricket Association might well consider the framing of a rul3 similar to that of the Wairarapa Rugby Union, fining a team £1 for forfeiting a match.
