CARTERTON.
(From Our Resident Reporter). 'i huriday. Mr Tuhirini, cf Taueru, lias purchased the eight-roomed house and half-an-acre of ground in Tyne Street, belonging to Mrs M. Jessen. Mr Spencer Bairstow is having an up-to-date residence erected in Victoria Street. The team to represent the local Fire 3rigade at the United Fire Bri gades' Demonstration next month at Auckland, is putting in a good deal of practice. Beautiful weather favoured the promoters of Variety Fair held this afternoon in Mr W. W. Mansfield's grounds, Costley Street. The affair was promoted for the purpose of raising funds for building an infant room to the Sunday School, and the proceeds from the function should go a long way towards the object. There was a large attendance, and the various stalls, which included variety, temperance, lollie, produce, shooting gallery, Aunt Sally, and pea guessing, pumpkin guessing, and name guessing, did good business throughout the afternoon. The credit for organising the gathering is due to Mr and Mrs Mansfield, who were assisted by a large band of willing helpers.
