CUTTING UP RUNS.
Speaking generally, three cr four small settlers are much more valuable to the country than is one large one, and if we want to build up a happy and prosperous nation we must sec thac the people are given every possible opportunity to distribute themselves over the land. We are sure, says the "Lyttelton Times," that Sir Joseph Ward appreciates this great truth, and we shall be disappointed if he does not find some way of giving effect to the representations that have been made to him in regard to the Canterbury runs.
