BREACH OF CUSTOMS REGULATIONS.

By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, February 23. Mr C. C. Kettle, S.M., gave judgment to-day in a rase in which Frank Holt, a passenger from Sydney, was charged with having 961 copper tins in nis possession after having declared (hat ho had no dutiable goods. The Magistrate found Holt guilty of a technicalbreach of the Customs regulations, forfeited the uns, and ordered him to pay treble duty. Mr Kettle, commenting on the proceedings, said:—"l don't consider it necessary to break op n people's luggage, and throw their things about like this.- Ths Crown officers should make things as easy as possible for people. I don't think such proceedings necessary, except in very special cases." ! The tins seized had at some time been used for opium.
