CADETS AND VOLUNTEERING. The manhood of New Zealand, properl} trained and armed, is well able to defend our hearths and homes against any conceivable invader. And the patriotism of the people should he more than equal to the making of any sacrifice that may bs involved in organising such a system .of defence .
In the meantime, says the Auckland "Star," it behoves the authorities to restrict useless expenditure, and, realising that volunteering implies something more than mere playing at soldiering, apply the large military expenditure to which tne country is necessarily committed to measures that will yield substantial results in the national scheme of military organisation.
