THE PENGUIN DISASTER.
FUNERAL OF THE VICTIMS. By Telegraph—-Press Association. WELLINGTON, February 16. The narrow streets round the Drill Hall in Buckle street were packed this morning with people anxious to see the public funeral accorded to the victims of the Penguin disaster. The lirst in order was a lorry with four coffins containing remains of the M3guire children. On the lorry was s?ated a lit le boy, the only one left of the family, ft was preceded bv the Mission Band and followed by a large number of personal friends. Behind came five lorries, each with two coffins all covered in flowers. These fourteen were all that, started from the Hall, but numerous private funerals are arranged for the same time and also at other hours throughout the day.
To-day's inquiries have not altered the number of those drowned by the wreck of the Penguin, but the name of Miss Jennings previously appearing in the list of dead must be deleted. She had booked to come on the fatal voyage, but did not join the vessel, and is now safe at Blenheim. This reduction, however, i» counter-balanced by the addition of the name of Mr James Collins, of Charleston, near Westport, who was travelling to Wellington to attend a conference of the Foresters. His name did not appear in the p>i.«senger list, but his presence nn board trie steamer is placed beyond doub*'.
