Monday,
Mr aal Mrs G- Calender, of Petone, and formerly of Carterton, who have been on a brief holiday to this town, left for home by the afternoon express. The Cartel ton Rifle Volunteers intend holding a church .parade at St. Mark's on Sunday morning next.
Bro. 'T. Sparks, of Belvedere, left for Masterton this morning, to represent Loyal Heart of OaK Lodge at the Oddfellows' Conference.
Mr T. Hart, of Ashliurst, who has been laid up here with appendicitis, received the sad intelligence of the death of his little .son, Reggie, which occurred this morning. The.lad was six years of age. Mr Hart was sufficiently well enough to leave.for Ashhurst by the express. The annual distribution of prizes in connection with the Carterton 1 Methodist .Sunday School took place yesterday afternoon, Mrs Elliott, wife of the minister, making the distribution. The gold medal given by the teachers for all-round merit was won by Miss Euiily Butler, and having won it twi~e in succession, it now becomes her own property. Miss Elsie King obtained the highest number of marks during the year, and was awarded a special prize. Francis Davis, Len Golds nith, and Alex. Price, received prizes for good conduct.
The local Lodge of Oddfellows on Wednesday evening will tencier a farewell social to Bra. J. S. Pepper, the occasion buin? nis departure .for Grey mouth.
