AN ARMY OF THE EMPIRE.

By Telegraph —Press Association, WELLINGTON, February 12. Enquiries made to-day at headquarters' regarding Mr Hakiane's remarks on the creation of an army of the Empire, elicited ths information that doubtless the cablegram had reference to an attempt that had l.een made, and which was progressing, to have the outlying dominions and colonies of the Empire placed upon the same lines and establishment and examination processes as those which obtained in regard to the British.Territorials forces. Already something to this end has been done on the lines desired. It is this which makes possible the interchange of officers, of which an earnest effort may be seen in the contemplated despatch to England of four New Zealand officers, which will take place in a few weeks time. Even now Colonel Robin, as chief of the staff, is in close contact with the military portions of the defence directors of Great Britain, and already the examinations of officers, the standards and methods and system, and the character of the questions, problems, etc., submitted at the various examinations held under the Council of Defence have been remodelled si as to secure the uniformity with the Territorial scheme, which the British Government desires.
