AMUSEMENTS.

COOPER'S OPERASfOPE.' One of the latest inventions of modern science in the production of the human voice and animated pictures is to be presented in the Town Hall by Cooper's Operascope and Royal Entertainers. Laughing, talking, whistling and dancing items are on the programme. Also the latest triumphs in the animated picture art, including one of the most sensational picture dramas ever yet seen, entitled the "Night Riders of Tennessee," or "Hunted to Death."

POLLARD'S JUVENILE OPERA,! COMPANY. In criticising the new military and spectacular musical comedy "The Gay Hussar," with which the Pollard Company will inaugurate a four nights' season on Monday next, an Australian critic writes:— There is an abundance of pretty catchy music, of intensely diverting business, of bright picturesque costumes and graceful groupings, with a beautiful and artistic scenic setting. The mounting was first-claes, and the costumes, which were soec-ially imported, were on a very lavish scale. The new piece combines all the best elements of a popular musical play. There is mirth-provoking business in every scene, and the author has taken care that no one in front shall yawn or .qrow tired for the want of something to laugh at. On the contrary, the comedy element is supplied in wholesale quantities. Mr Pollard has previously given local theatre-goers some fine laughter compears, but he has not had the good fortune to alight on any piece which could be considered better in that respect than his latest acquisition. There were scarcely any shortcomings such as are usually incidental to a first production, but apart from those the piece went splendidly. The box plan for the season will be opened at Miss Rive's tomorrow morning.
