DOUBLE WEDDING AT MASTERTON.

A double wedding, attended with very considerable local interest, was solemnised at Knox Church, Masterton, yesterday. The respective contracting parties were Miss Devina McVenie Hammond, who was married to Mr Joseph Kirkwood Carpenter, of Pahiatua, and eldest son of Mr and Mrs J. Carptnter, well known and popular old Masterton residents; and Miss Ivy .Blanche Hammond, who was married to Mr John William Bnwen, of Turakina. .Both the brides are well-known and highly esteemed in local social circles, a'ld are daughters of Mrs J. K. Hammond, of Masterton.

One of the brides was given away by Mr W. Phillips, of Sanson, their cousin, and the other by Mr E. G. E'on. The dresses of the brides were identical in detail, as were the dresses of the two sets of bridesmaids. The brides were attired in charming'.dresses of white chiffon, made up in Directoire style, trimmed with tuck chiffon and silver tissue lace, with ball trimming and cream tassels. They also wore veils and wreaths of orange blossom, and carried nicely-designed shower bouquets. The bridesmaids for the elder of the brides were Misses Lily Constance Han.moid, her sister, and Dora Hathaway, while the younger was attended by her sister, Miss Bessie J. Hammond and Miss Vila O'Connell. They were dressed alike in very pretty cream silk eolienne, trimmed with tuck net and guipure insertion to match worked with gold thread arid tassels. The hals were of cream crinoline straw with silk chiffon net to match, trimmed with yellow butter cup 3 and pink and white May. Like the brides they carried shower bouquets. Mr CarDen ter had as bsst man his brother, Mr Robert W. Carpenter, of Manaia (Taranaki), and groomsman Mr Leonard S. Nicol, and Mr Bowe.-i was attended by his brother, Mr W. Bower/, as best man, and Mr C. Gaplin, of Woodlands, Marten, as groomsman.

The brides' mother were a very pretty Directoire dress of black silk emby with silk stripe, trimmed with black guipure lace. This was matched with black insertion worked with gold thread and heliotrope velvet ribbon. She wore a heliotrope toque and a white feather boa, and in addition she carried a heliotrope bouquet. The Church was thronged with friends of the respective couples, numerous relatives being also in attendance. The interior of the Ciurch was decorated with ivy leaves and other appropriate greenery and flowers, and looked pretty. Thi Rev. A. T. Thompson performed the ceremony, Miss Hogg at the organ, playing the Wedding March in fine style after the ceremony. The reception held at the residence of Mrs Hammond, CMe Street, was a function of some magnitude, the wedding breakfast being set out under a marquee in the grounds, appropriate decorations being again prominent. Mr Reihana Boyes' urchestra played during the course of the proceedings, which were of a felicitious character. The presents received by the two couples were of an fX'-epti.nal, numerous, and valuable nature.

Mr and Mrs Carpenter are spending their honeymoon in the South, and Mr and Mrs Bower, in Auckland and Rotorua. The travelling dresses were both green tailor made costumes, with hand worked chiffon fronts and white pleated tulle hats, trimmed with gold medallions and ostrich tips. Last evening a very pleasant party was held in connection with the function at the residence of Mrs Hammond.
