CARTERTON NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter.) Tuesday. The.planking.in the White Bridge at .Belvedere requires the attention of the authorities, and.it is said to be dangerous for cyclists at the present time. Mr V. L. .Fairbrother, auctioneer, who has been ill for some weeks past, has recovered sufficiently to be ;able-to.resume business. The "Kilties" Band gave a performance on the Wairarapa and East ■Coast.P. and A. Society's grounds this afternoon, when they were favour2d with a fair attendance of the public. In the evening they appeared in Victoria Hall before an appreciative audience. Mr W. M. Singleton, Government ,Dair.y. Expert, was a visitor to Car-terton,to-day.

Mi-iF. Hart, of Ashkurst, was taken Suddenly ill in Carterton yesterday with appendicitis. The Wairarapa Horthultral Society have arranged a programme, com.prisingliM) classes, for their Summer Show, to be held on Thursday, .February ~2sth. JVltssrs H. Poole (Wellington) and E. Hale (Masteron) ■have been appointed judges for .flower?, .fruit and vegetables. The members of the Rechabite Lodge .last evening decided to visit Masterton on Thursday evening. A iletter was, received from Dr Todd, of Auckland, asking what support tbp. Lodge would give him if he established himself in Carterton. It was resolved to reply that the Lodge could make no promise of support. Bro. W. Tucker was presented with a P.C.R. emblem.

The Borough Council, at a special meeting last evening, passed a special .order striking a rate for a loau of £2OO, raised to CAtend the drainage down Rhodes Street, the rate to apply over the Rhodes Street special rating area. The order will come up for confirmation on March 10th. • Mr A. R. Wallis was the successful tenderer for painting the Borough Council Chambers. Daring January 419 points of rain were recorded at Belvedere.
