THE KILTIES. "The Lone Hand" magazine recently wrote concerning the Kilties: —"Australia had a warm welcome therefore for the Kilties, one of the famous of the world's bands. The KiPies reproduce the stirring warlike costumes--, the bagpipes, the wild war slogans of the cians, the d-inces, and add to band musi:, vocal renditions o' the "rent airs of the British Empire—the sailors hornpipe, the Irish jig, the Scotch reel, the reel o' Tulloch, the intermingles folk-sen ;s, mai'ches, medleys, airs and ballads of the United Kingdom, backed throughout by the harmoniously modulated orass and reed band." nfter a most successful tour of the South Island the Kilties Band will pay a return visit to Masterton to-morrow, and will give a matinee in the Town Hall at !-i o'clock.
POLLARD'S JUVENILE OPERA COMPANY. ' Seventy people and four trucks of scenery and effects is a : arge order for a touring company, and runs into more expanse than the average playgoer dreams of. Mr Pollard has always been famed for the manner in vvhi'h he stages his pieces, his motto being "If a thing is wr.rth doing it is worth doing well." The following from an Adelaide contem-' porary speaks volumes a<3 to what playgoers may expect on Monday night:—"ln 'The Gay Hussar' Mr Tom Pollard has succeeded in placing before his patrons a charming musical comedy. The piece was presented for the first time in Australasia, and the large audience assembled was enthusiastic in its reception of a play which is studded with little gems of' melody, sparkles in its bo-ik, ■is fuil of quaint and fantastic dances and feasts the eyeV of all who ;ppr?ciate spectacular effect. Tlvi arrangement of the ballets and chorus groups deseive special praise. The mounting of the comedy 'n the best yet shown by thy company." The box plans for the four nights' season 1 at Masterton will'be opened at fvjiss Rive's on Fiiday morning.
