High Commissioner, dated London, 6th February. 1909 The mutton market is very dull, and supply exceeds demand. River Plate mutton i 3 in larcre supply, and Is being' strongly pushed for sale at 2Jd per lb. Canterbury mutton is quoted at 3fd, and North Island at 33d per lb. Buyers are not inclined to "make f<rwa:d purchases of mutton at pres.ni pricts. The lamb market is quiet and tnere is a dull sal-' fur all brands. This season's Canterbury lamb is quoted at s£d'perlb; Australian, 4d; River Plate, 4d ppr lb. The beef market is falling, and supplies are increasing. Hindquart era are quoted at .3, and forequartew at 22 i per lb. The butter market is steady and a fair business.doiijg. Th? following; are the current quotations: —Choicest .New Zealand, ills; Danish, 118s; Australian, 107s; Argentine, 107s; Siberian, 102s per cwt. The cheese market is tirm. and thera is a better demand. Wi.ite makes are quoted at 60s, and tfiloure !, owing to thort supply, at 62s per cwt.

The hemp market continues dull. Current quotations are: —Good fair grade, on spot, £24 10s; fair *>rade, on spot, £22 10s, fair current Manila, on spot, £23 10s; JaruaryMarch shipments, good fair prade, £24; fair grade. £22; fair mrrent Manila, £22 103. Last week's .nanila output, amounted to 26,000 Liales. Stock held in L< ndon is 239 tons. The cocksfoot seed marKet is quiet, and buyers are not keen to .lo business until they receive New Zealand reports. The wool market has bem very irregular, but closed firm.
